What is it like at Cocos Island?

Located 300 miles southwest of Costa Rica, Cocos Island is an isolated ocean oasis. For decades, pirates and adventurers used the island as a hideout, but now, as Cocos continues to concentrate marine life from hundreds of miles around, it is recognized as one of the last wild places on earth.

Cocos offers some of the finest big-animal scuba diving in the entire world. In an era haunted by ecological catastrophe, Cocos offers an example of natural harmony. Hammerheads, giant manta rays, bottle-nose dolphins, whale sharks and millions of smaller fish all call Cocos home.

In the waters of Cocos Island, you will dive with white tips and hammerhead sharks, marbled stingrays approaching 6' in diameter, manta rays up to 12' across, giant moray eels and an occasional whale shark! Additionally, you will see Moorish idols, large schools of jacks and tuna, creole fish, lobsters, octopus and other various reef life. Silky sharks, silver tips, sailfish, marlin, and green turtles are also in the area. The key word in describing Cocos Island diving is ACTION! ! ! If you are looking for adventure, it's here! Conditions around Cocos are varied. The one constant factor at Cocos is change. Currents are at times strong and unusually changeable. Diving could become strenuous, but not more than any experienced diver could handle. Visibility averages 80-100' with occasional extremes of 40 and 120'. With this in mind, be prepared for some of the best diving of your life.

Testimonials

Amazing trip! Saw hammerheads and lots of pelagics and fish. Well worth the money. Would return. B.A. Canada

Our trip was amazing!! We saw and I filmed hundreds of hammerhead sharks on multiple dives. On one dive there must have been at least 1000 hammerheads; there were so many that I didn't know which way to point the video camera. There were also marble rays galore hovering in spacecraft formation in the current. We also snorkled with orcas, which is every diver's dream.
